The participants of the Symposium will be presented with reports by leading scientists from different countries on the latest findings from Yersinia research. Young scholars will also be able to share their achievements in this field. The program of the symposium will include plenary and breakout sessions on key fundamental and applied areas of Yersinia investigation. The audience of "Yersinia 14" will be significantly expanded with on-line participants. The Symposium will provide for an informal professional dialogue, which will contribute to the overall success in counteracting the plague - an infection that remains relevant today.
The year 2022 is 100th anniversary of the Sanitary-Epidemiological Service of Russia, and the system of anti-plague institutions celebrates its 125th anniversary. Participants in the Symposium from different countries will have a unique opportunity to get acquainted with operational experience of anti-plague institutions in Russia and other member-states of the Commonwealth of Independent States. The Symposium will be held in St. Petersburg - the "cradle" of anti-plague institutions. They will be able to visit the city of Kronstadt, where the first "Special laboratory for the preparation of anti-bubonic plague drugs" was organized on the territory of the fort "Emperor Alexander I".

Chief State Sanitary Officer of the Russian Federation
Dear participants and guests of the Symposium!

In 2022, for the first time ever the traditional international Symposium "Yersinia 14" will be held in St. Petersburg, Russian Federation. This is a special year for us – the 100th anniversary of the establishing the state sanitary-epidemiological service of Russia and the 125th anniversary of the system of anti-plague institutions in Russia.

It was in the city on the Neva river where the foundation for scientific and practical activities to combat the plague and “prevent the spread of plague infection” across the vast expanses of our country was laid. Today, the successors of the "Special Laboratory" of the Imperial Institute of Experimental Medicine, created in the fort "Emperor Alexander I” – the anti-plague institutions of the Rospotrebnadzor – ensure biological safety of the Russian Federation in regard to a whole range of particularly dangerous infections, among which the plague is a priority.

Despite more than a century-long experience in studying the plague pathogen, a broad spectrum of issues is of fundamental scientific interest, and the epidemiological situation in many countries of the world remains tense.
The Russian Federation, having vast organizational experience in epidemiological surveillance over plague, is actively developing international cooperation in this area. Collaboration with the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union, the Commonwealth of Independent States, near and far abroad is expanding, aimed at reducing the risks of the spread of plague from natural foci, many of which are trans-boundary ones.

Traditionally, the International Symposium on Yersinia brings together the scientists from all over the world, providing a platform for discussing the results of academic research, strengthening and expanding professional ties.

I am sure that the participants and guests of the “Yersinia 14” symposium will be able to address the most important problems in the study of plague and other infectious diseases caused by Yersinia, determine the prospects for scientific research and outline ways for further cooperation.

I wish all participants and guests of the symposium health, fruitful work and creative achievements!
